August Wine Tasting

August Wine Tasting

10% off on all wine tasting wines!

For the whites, we'll have:

1. Terre Libre Fumé Blanc 2009 (Argentina) $7.99 – Crisp, clean, tasty little white wine at a great price! Perfect for parties and more!
2. Graffigna Pinot Grigio 2009 (Argentina) $12.99 – this is a bright, crisp wine with great acidity. It has good citrus aromas and flavors. Stainless steel fermentation. Food pairing – lighter dishes, lighter seafood, salads.
3. Casa Lapostolle Sauvignon Blanc 2009 (Chile) $10.99 - A “house-pick” for a great value in a moderately priced Sauvignon Blanc. It’s well-balanced, dry, with a citrusy nose and hints of lemon and lemon grass in the mouth. Food pairing - Try it with lobster or spicy, lighter Thai food.
4. Errazuriz Estate Chardonnay 2007 (Chile) $13.99 – This Chardonnay leans towards tropical fruit aromas and flavors with just a little toast and vanilla. It has subtle lemon and citrus notes. 32% of the wine was aged in oak barrels, so this has some oakiness without being overblown. Aged on the lees for 5 months to add weight and complexity. Creamy texture at the finish.

For the rosé, we'll have:

1. Feudi di San Gregorio Ros' Aura Irpinia Rosato 2009 (Italy) $14.99 - yes, this is from Italy. Lots of the wine history in South America is because of Italian immigrants. Also, we didn’t have a South American rosé we loved. It’s 100% Aglianica – the classic red grape from this part of Italy (near Vesuvius). Hand-picked grapes. De-stemmed. Bright, fresh wine with aromas and flavors of red berries. Food pairing – pasta, seafood.

For the reds, we'll have:

1. Terra Andina Reserva Pinot Noir 2008 (Chile) $13.99 – this is a smooth, rich Pinot Noir with a nice combination of black cherry and raspberry aromas and flavors. Velvety, smooth texture. Aged 10 months in 2nd & 3rd use oak barrels – so this is not oaky. Food pairing – chicken, pork, pasta dishes, salmon, tuna.
2. Viña Montgras Reserva Carmenère 2009 (Chile) $12.99 - Big wine full of flavors! This has some of the green bell pepper aroma that typifies Carmenère, but it is not in the flavors! This has the texture and feel of a great Merlot – smooth, lush and rich! Flavors are more Syrah-like - peppery, spicy, dark fruit! Aromas of rich leather, spices and blackberries. Food pairing - stews and dishes seasoned with cumin. It also compliments pâtés and duck liver, especially if they include a bit of pepper. Pastas and salmon. NY Times, #1 rated Carmenère!
3. Viña Ninquén “Antu” Cabernet Sauvignon - Carmenère 2007 (Chile) $19.99 – This is a fabulous, lush, full-bodied red! This has great aromas of baking spices, curing tobacco, Asian spices, flowers and dark berries. The flavors show a lot of dark berries and baking spices. The tannins are soft and ripe. 70% Cabernet and 30% Carmenère. Aged in French and American oak (50% new) for 15 months. This should age well through 2019. Food pairing – big, rich meals. Steak. Lamb. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 90 points
4. Agua de Piedra Gran Reserva Malbec 2009 (Argentina) Reg. $13.99, Sale $12.99 – Not your run-of-the mill Malbec! This is a full-bodied, elegant Malbec. It’s loaded with boysenberry and blackberry aromas and flavors with a little earthiness and spice. The tannins are softer and integrated. It has bright, zippy acidity. Food pairing – roasted or grilled meats. Pasta dishes with meat and/or tomatoes. Grilled chicken with a thick tomato sauce.
